Custom Brass Stampings, Brass Ferrules & Brass Expansion Couplings
Brass is one of the most popular alloys used in metal stamping, generally defined as an alloy comprised of copper and zinc. By varying the proportions of copper and zinc, the properties of brass can be changed allowing for a wide range of attributes. Winzeler Manufacturing Company manufactures brass metal stampings and provides products across a variety of industries, specializing in expansion couplings and brass ferrules for the Lawn & Garden industry. Most grades of brass are easily drawn, blanked, pierced, or formed; and brass has properties which make it a good material for stamping applications.
- Corrosion resistant
- Medium strength
- Resists tarnishing
- Low friction
- Malleability
Due to its low friction characteristic, brass is ideal for components commonly used in gears, bearings, ammunition, plumbing fixtures and valves, and electrical applications. Depending on the grade of material used, brass will vary in the degree of electrical conductivity, corrosion resistance, surface smoothness, and its response to chemicals, heat and plating. In the softened or annealed condition brasses are ductile and strong but when hardened by cold working their strength increases markedly.
Dezincification Issues
In certain circumstances where water supplies are unusually aggressive, conventional brass fittings can experience a form of corrosion known as dezincification. This involves selective leaching of the zinc which can cause fracture of the fitting. ECO-BRASS is a newly developed lead-free brass (less than 0.09% lead content) alloy that eliminates the problems of stress corrosion cracking and dezincification corrosion. This ideal brass alloy has many attributes which make it an excellent choice for situations where lead-free drinking water is a concern, or where strength equal to stainless steel is required.
Advantages of ECO-BRASS:
- Lead Free
- Excellent de-zincification corrosion resistance (equal to C83600 alloy)
- Good machinability
- Good castability and fluidity
- Excellent ductility
- Currently in use worldwide
